25% of our customers processed a combined $5.4M in 4 months

At the end of April we started tracking combined transaction volume for all payment methods. This was introduced in a software update, that anonymously reports weekly totals to our reporting platform.
Before we get into some numbers, we want to clarify that we in no way tie this data to individual customers. That information is not available to anyone in the company as we simply don't track it. This information is collected only from installations that allow it (config option) as well.
The numbers
To date, about 25% of our customer installations have installed this software update which reports this data.
From the end of April 2011 to now, our customers have processed a little over a combined $5.4M in transactions, across all payment methods. This comes from about 48K orders.
PayPal Standard is far in the lead in terms of processed amount, with Braintree in second and Authorize.net in third.
The chart screenshot above shows weekly order totals, compared with page views. The blue bars are order quantities, but they don't really register in comparison to totals and page views.
Upward trend
The report is trending up because:
- Existing stores are updating their installations, which will trigger the anonymous reporting
- New stores are popping up all the time
In hindsight, we of course wish that we collected this data from the start, so that our data was more accurate of our entire customer base, and we had more historical data. But, as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
But even with that said, we're happy with the numbers and are looking forward to aggressively growing these numbers in the coming months. It will be fun to compare in 1 year from now.
