Bundle Products feature preview

Today we are happy to announce that the long expected Bundle Product feature is almost complete and will be published within several days.

About the feature

Bundle Product feature allows you to create products which consist of other products. A typical example is a computer, which you can configure right on the product page before you add it to the cart. This feature resembles the product extra options feature which has been available from the beginning. But in contrast to extra options, bundle items are real products. This means that if you sell PCs as bundles, all computer components such as CPUs, video cards, etc. will be represented as LemonStand products with all usual product features such us separate SKU numbers and inventory tracking. But when purchased as a part of PC they act as the PC components, so you can see the PC structure in the cart, in the invoice and other places.

Any product can act as a bundle. To create a bundle product you should first create the base product and bundle item products. After that you can add bundle items to the base product. When you add bundle items to a base product, you can specify whether the bundle item is required (like CPU for a PC), and which control type should be used on the front-end: a drop-down list, checkboxes or radio boxes.

Products which you choose for a bundle items can have options, extra options and grouped products. Thus, if your bundle product is iPad Smart Cover, your customers can chose the cover color right on the iPad product page. Along with the Bundle Products we improved the product visibility filters, so you can hide bundle products from the catalog and search results if you do not want to sell them separately from the base product.

Availability

Bundle Product feature is a part of LemonStand core package, so you will not need to pay for it separately. Over the next several days we will publish the feature's documentation. Also we will update the Simplicity theme with the Bundle Product integration.
